Memeorial Day

Burger and the kids went in the pool and had a good time. Emrick loves to stick her face in the water and Jacob knows how to hold his breath and put his whole self under water! He was having tons of fun doing that until he got some water up his nose. Then we all ate hot dogs and hamburgers and the kids ran around and around. Then it was time to come home and Jacob was sad. We got half way home when Jacob remembered that he left Dolphiny and Dolphiny Junior at Grandpa Oldenburger's house. Many tears were shed when I told him we couldn't go back until tomorrow to get them. He had to get Hippo-y to keep him company in bed tonight. He's still a little sad but he's dealing with it like a champ.

Enjoying the Weather

We are. We have been to the park every day this week, I'm pretty sure. Even the day after Emrick was up all night gagging/puking. We slept on the couch together because she didn't feel well and Jacob joined us because he was lonely in his room. I made him sleep on the floor because our couch isn't big enough to sleep three. He didn't mind. Today we went to the school my mom works at and joined her class at recess. Jacob had the time of his life. And to make his day even better we went to visit my dad after stopping at Burger King to get Jacob a kid's meal. He wanted a Marmaduke toy. And Burger King rocks because you can get a cheese burger kid's meal at 9:30 A.M.

I am really excited about hot weather. I'm really excited for tank top sundresses for Emrick and plaid shorts for Jacob. I am most excited that both the kids are old enough to enjoy summertime activities this year. We are planning to go to a car show tomorrow night and to visit Burger's family on Monday. Today I bought sunscreen and bug spray at Wal-Mart and cost me over $20! But now I'm stocked up and ready. Bring on the summer!

A Weekend Away

We took the weekend off and went to Minnesota to visit the Mall of America. We stayed in a hotel and Jacob thought we were moving there. Such a silly boy! Both the kids loved the hotel room the best. Jumping on the beds and opening all the empty drawers, I don't know why we even spent money to go to the aquarium.

New Camera!

That's right, I finally got my new camera. It's nothing too fancy. A Nikon Coolpix L110 with 12mp and 15x zoom. We got it last night and didn't have much of a chance to try it out so I took the kids outside today to try to get some pictures. Of course, they were not cooperative. I took a few and sent them to Walgreen's to be printed so I could see. We are headed to pick them up now, then maybe to the park to try to get some more pictures! I also want to stop at Sonic's and get a java chiller.

Sunday

We had a really great time on Sunday. Jacob wanted a picnic so we packed a lunch but then couldn't decide where to go to eat it. The best place we could think of was my Grandma and Grandpa's house, so that's where we went! We ate our packed lunch then went for a walk and Jacob rode his scooter. Emrick had a turn on the scooter, too! I was happy to get a few nice pictures, even though my mom was the only one that could look at the camera. I'm excited to buy my new camera (one of these days) and get even more lovely pictures of my kids and family!

Yesterday. Five Years

First of all, yesterday was my mom's 50th birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! We celebrated by having them buy us dinner at Pizza Ranch then coming back to our house for cake from ColdStone's. Both my brothers came and we all enjoyed a nice dinner together. I really hope she had a lovely birthday.

Also, Burger and I met exactly five years ago yesterday. I remember the night clearly, and it always gives me a chuckle to replay it in my head. I got off work at my job at Godfather's Pizza and my friend, Christina, dragged me to meet her boyfriend's friend called Burger. And when we got to the apartment, Burger's roomate let us in the door because Burger was busy at the computer. Wearing only his boxer shorts. Was our visit a surprise visit? Not at all. He just liked to hang out in his boxer shorts.

And ever since that very first meeting, we have been best friends. I love almost every moment of our lives. We are regular people, of course, and each have our 'off' moments. But there is no other person I would rather have my life with. Every May 13 I love remembering what a lucky person I am. I have a wonderful mom and a wonderful husband and we can all share the same day!

Overwhelmed

Why didn't anyone tell me how much crazy was going to be around here with two kids? I feel like someone could have warned me! My house is always a mess. There are always piles of laundry and dishes and toys and crumbs spread around the whole place. And dog hair. And more toys that my kids don't even play with. And crayons and markers that Emrick grabs without anyone noticing. I think some of it has to do with the fact that we live in a very small space but I think more of it has to do with the fact that we just have too much stuff. Stuff is every where and it's starting to make me feel claustrophobic. I'm also outnumbered. If I'm busy with one kid then the other is destroying something. The only time I can shower is when Emrick is napping or if Burger is home. But even then it's a struggle.

I really love my kids and blah blah blah all that good stuff. And when Burger is home things are a little more even around here. But most of the time Burger is at work and I have a headache and two wild crazy things running around while I try to make things work. I wouldn't change my life for anything. Not even billions of dollars so I could hire nannies and house cleaners and personal chefs and drivers. The truth is, I would be insanely bored with that. I love chasing my kids around and trying to figure things out but it's really hard. Really really hard some days.

Happy Belated Mother's Day!

We had a great Mother's Day! Woke up and snuggled in bed then Burger made pancakes for breakfast. After breakfast I was checking the weather online and when we saw that it was supposed to be nice we decided to go to the zoo. So we all got dressed and left. After a quick stop for coffee we were on our way! We drove to Coal City, by the quad cities, and went to the zoo there. Emrick walked all around the zoo holding Burger's hand. We rode the train and the carousel and played at the playground inside the zoo. It was a really nice day and everyone had so much fun. I forgot my camera (seriously, what's wrong with me?!?) but took some pretty good pics with my phone. I hope to be adding them here later today or tomorrow, but no promises!

Saturday

Ah, good morning Saturday. Today Burger is at work and I got to sleep in because Jacob watched cartoons and Emrick slept late. It was really lovely. When we got up, we ate frozen waffles for breakfast and are hanging out the rest of the day until Burger returns. Our plan was to go to the zoo but then Burger found out yesterday that he was needed at work. I was really bummed at first but now that I see the cloudy, windy weather out there I don't mind so much. We'll go a different day.

Emrick is still on her antibiotics but clearly feeling much better. She is back to her normal self, mostly. And she found a marker the other day and decided to decorate our beige leather couch. I have no idea how to get it off and everything I've been suggested sounds really harsh. So I think I might just leave it and in a few years when they both know better than to color the couch, I will just buy a new one. The blue marks on the couch will be a nice reminder of her young toddler days, right?

Well

This is a quick update. Jacob is fine and derashed. I took him to the doctor and they gave us yet another cream. This one is a hydro cortisone cream safe for faces and it had his cleared in just a few days. Thank goodness. But then over the weekend he went to a birthday party and my mom's house and started to get a little rashy again. Used the new cream and have him mostly clear again. Whew. I am always thinking that it shouldn't be this hard and that I shouldn't have to make these choices. Should I let him go to his Grandma's house because he loves it so much and has a great time but he always comes home and is covered in rashes the next day? Should I take him to the park to play for exercise and a good time even though he ends up rashy? I hate that I have to decide between letting him be a normal boy and having to fight with him for four days to put on extra cream extra times a day. But that's what I have to do.

Emrick is a feisty little fourteen month old girl. She was sick over the weekend. Woke up on Saturday with a fever and had been pulling at her ears for a few days so I took her into the doctor and got an antibiotic for ear infection. She was still sickly yesterday but this morning she woke up in a great mood and I thought all was well. But barely two hours after waking she grabbed her sippy and blanket and was asking for a nap. So to a nap she went, and there she remains 2.5 hours later.

Burger worked Saturday, which always hinders any cool weekend plans. So we stayed home all weekend and hung out. Grocery shopping and what not. Yesterday we had to buy a new vacuum because the old one stopped working. It hasn't been working right for some time now, but yesterday is completely stopped sucking anything up. The new vacuum works great and my rugs look cleaner than ever!

We have no big plans for this week. More of the same old stuff. Tonight Jacob has gymnastics and all I can think about right now is how much I would love a coffee treat from Sonic!
