Emrick is a big girl now and doesn't drink from a bottle anymore! She likes her bottles and at first I wasn't even going to try taking them out of the picture until she was a bit older. But then last Friday I had to change her birthday dress because the stinkin' bottle leaked all over her for no apparent reason. If you have ever used Avent bottles then you probably know what I'm talking about. And when it happened on Friday I was thinking to myself that pretty soon I wouldn't have to deal with it anymore. So I bought her a Nuby Sports Sipster and she loves it. It's pretty much a 'big kid' bottle but I don't really care. It doesn't leak! I officially packed all the bottles away today, leaving just one out in case of an emergency.
Jacob will be meeting with a teacher on Tuesday afternoon for his developmental screening that will establish where he will be placed for pre-K. We are really hoping he gets into the school right down the street from us since it's our school district and that's where he will go to kindergarten. He is getting so big and he is so excited to go to school! Today he made cupcakes with my mom in the microwave. I was skeptical but it actually looks like they turned out. And, tonight while I was laying in bed snugging Jacob to sleep, he was playing with his new car from Grandma and I noticed that he has the most adorable and chubby little boy hands. I was wishing that I had a camera in my hand so I could catch it on film (well, my camera is digital...) But I don't carry my camera with my constantly so I told myself to make sure to take a 'mental picture' so I could always try to remember how perfect and lovely he is at this age.

Emrick's First Birthday!
Emrick on her first birthday, eating a birthday breakfast donut! She loved it, but don't worry, I fed her blueberries, too. We took Oreo cookies to work to share with her friends and she wore a fancy birthday dress and a pretty in her hair! But then her bottle leaked all over and I had to change her and the only extras I had were footie pajamas. Oh well, she looks like a princess no matter what she wears! We had to stay at work a little late and didn't get home until noon. Fed the kids some lunch and put them in their beds for a nap and they are still in there being loud and crazy forty-five minutes later. Awsome.

Wednesday
We had Emrick's birthday party last Sunday and she had a good time. Enjoyed opening presents an especially enjoyed eating her cake! Her real birthday is this Friday and we will probably go out to dinner or something to celebrate as a family. Who knows.
We are currently working in signing Jacob up for pre-k in the Waterloo school district. They called yesterday to let me know who to call to set up a time for his developmental screening to find which class he will be placed in. He is so excited to go to school! I keep telling him he will be going after his birthday, when he turn four in August. Today he asked if he would have to have shots at his doctor appointment before he goes to school and I told him that he most likely would. He was kind of nervous but then decided he would do it if that's what he has to do to go to school.
Emrick had her twelve month doctor check up yesterday. She weighs 22 pounds and 13 ounces which is the 75th percentile. Her height is 30 inches which is the 80th percentile. She drinks milk now instead of formula but is still holding strong to her bottles. She has no desire to drink from sippy cups and that is OK by me. But it drives my mom nuts! Emrick can walk perfectly and I bought her a pair of shoes that have squeakers in the soles so they squeak every time she steps down. So cute! She loved them the second she put them on. The squeakers come out so when I'm tired of listening to her walk around she can still use the shoes!
Burger will be gone at school next week. Which is always such a bummer for me, but I deal with it. We are starting to look at mini vans to buy. Burger has his heart set on a Chrysler but I could really care less. I want something used with really low miles that still looks new, or at least not too tore up. Should prove to be an interesting search.

Something to think about
I was just reading through some of my recent posts and noticed that I repeat myself a lot. Like almost every post is the same! Wow, that must be really boring for you guys to read. Sorry about that. I'm hoping that when my life gets a little less busy that maybe I will be able to have complete thoughts again.

You want to hear about it?
You sure? Because mostly it's boring... Alright, I guess I'll tell you anyhow.
We have been so busy doing absolutely nothing lately. I cannot account for all of my time. I feel like I've been running marathons. Over the weekend Burger bought a new TV and we bought a bunk bed for the kids. We won't have them set one on top of the other for a long while. But they are the wooden kind that can be used as two separate beds. So we set Jacob's up and put Emrick's in the basement until she's ready for a bed. I cannot wait until she's ready for a bed! That means I get to buy cutesy girly girl bedding and that truly sounds like the most fun thing in the world.
Jacob seriously had the world's most dry skin. We use Eucerin Calming Creme all over his body and that helps tons, but his scalp has been so dry lately! And I had no idea what to do about it. The other day I noticed he was scratching it so much he was almost bleeding so I went and bought gel baby oil and coated his head last night before bed. It looks much better this morning and I am hoping that's all it takes. A couple nights a week of baby oil to make it all better. Hopefully when summer comes he won't be so dried out. I am not holding my breath. He has been doing really well with the no dairy thing. In fact, we had lasagna the other night and I didn't even think about it having cheese in it. The next morning when he woke all around his mouth was broken out in a rash. I don't know if it was the cheese or the tomato sauce. My poor son has some serious skin issues.
Emrick is going to be a year old next Friday! Her party is this Sunday at McDonald's in Waverly. We ordered her cake last weekend. Burger picked it out and is really excited about it. He loves to spoil that girl baby rotten. It seems to work out for us, though, because I love to spoil Jacob rotten. Not that we both don't spoil both of the kids... I think our kids are the most spoiled rotten kids ever! Anyhow, I can't believe Emrick is going to be a year old. Time went so fast!
Tonight we are going to Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate some birthdays with some friends. Really excited to spend some time having some fun with the kids. Hopefully Emrick doesn't get too grumpy from it being so loud in there!

Pictures!
We have pictures taken over the weekend for Emrick's first birthday. We took a nice family one and some of the kids together. But mostly they were Emrick and her fancy polka-dot dress! It was really fun and I am so happy to have family pictures with the kids at this age. We really should do family picture more often.
We had a pretty fun Valentine weekend. Bought a bunk bed for the kids. We set up one bed and have the other stored away for when Emrick is old enough to need a bed. Jacob is really excited about his new bed and had a nice night sleeping in it last night.
Sunday is Emrick's birthday party. We are having a really small thing at the play place in McDonald's. We ordered her cake over the weekend. I have no idea why but Burger picked out Strawberry Shortcake! I can't believe she is going to be one whole year old in less than two weeks.
Jacob is doing well. We recently cut dairy completely out of his diet. There has been a noticeable difference in his behavior and his skin! It is harder than I thought it would be to cut out dairy completely. We already did no cheese, no milk, no yogurt. You know, all the very obvious things. But now we are down to if it is made with milk or any sort of milk product it's a no go. He did have some ice cream over the weekend and I'm hoping we won't notice! I thought we would try this for a while just to see if it makes an obvious difference with his eczema. If it does not, then it's back to the drawing board!

Faster
Today while working at the Y, I opened the door to go out of the room and before I knew it Emrick was running out the door. She wasn't anywhere near me, but when she saw me going towards the door she booked it so she could escape. That's how much of a pro walker she is these days. I can't believe she moved as fast as she did!
I am so on track today! Woke up and had enough time to shower before the kids got up. Got everyone dressed and fed and then had twenty minutes of down time before we had to leave for work! When days start like that, you know you're in for a good one. I am making roast and potatoes in the crock pot and was thinking of baking a cake for dessert. I have gotten the dishes done and started some laundry. Next on my list is to clean the bathroom.
Jacob is obsessed with play dough currently. He has been playing it every day, several times a day. I love play dough and am so happy he loves it. We are planning on buying him some cool play dough toys this weekend. Maybe the hamburger shop or the ice cream shop. He will love either one so it's going to be a hard decision for him!

OK, so I kind of forgot that I have a blog here. But, luckily, I didn't forget for long! And I think the cute picture of the kids makes up for it. They were both wearing jammies with feet and looked so cuddly and cozy I had to have a picture of it!
Jacob's dentist appointment went well. No cavities! He did really well, he wasn't shy or scared at all. They gave him a look and find book to read while waiting his turn then to take home. He was most excited about the Diego toothbrush they gave him and the Spongebob toothpaste. He was overly excited. Like one would have thought we don't have any of those at home for him. But the reality of it is we have about 5-6 toothbrushes for him and Spongebob and Thomas toothpaste. Silly boy. I think maybe he has an infatuation with toothpaste.
Emrick is starting to feel a little better since being put on antibiotics. She is a pro walker and has been less tipsy so I am thinking the ear infection is clearing up. Thank goodness. Her and Jacob both still have coughs, but I think that's normal for kids to cough sometimes...

Friday Yet?
Almost there. We're almost to the weekend. I can't wait. Emrick has an ear infection. I took her in yesterday because she is suffering an awful cough. I wanted to make sure it was just a cold, but it's not. She is on antibiotic and will hopefully be feeling better soon!
Burger's car was fixed quickly. It ended up being just a loose battery cable. So funny, made me so happy it wasn't going to be something pricey to fix! And now we know for next time, if ever his car has a problem again, to check the battery cables first. Huge sigh of relief.
Jacob is going to the dentist today. It's his first time going. Our dentist doesn't see kids until they are three years old and since his birthday I have just been slacking. I don't especially love the dentist. I know he needs to go, and I know how important it is the he gets used to it and goes on a regular basis. I just feel kind of sad because once you start you can never stop. It's a whole new part of his life, the dentist-going era begins! So I really want his first time to go smoothly and I want him to love it! I don't know what the odds are of that happening, but would you all mind crossing your fingers for good luck just to help me out a tiny bit?

Oh Wow
We are having a really rough day around here today. Yesterday was rough, too. And so was Sunday. Jacob seems to be having some issues, but don't worry, we will figure them out! Right now he is playing his Leapster and being a perfect angel.
I went to Younkers to find 70% off the already clearanced prices! Yay! So I bought Emrick three packs of leggings that come two in each package. Three black pairs and three light pink pairs. The light pink will each probably be ruined after the first wearing since the knees will get so dirty. But the black pairs she will probably be able to wear into the summer as capris! I love good deals.
Burger's car stopping running while he was driving to work today. So I had to rush out of bed and get the kids up and take him the rest of the way to work. My dad and Burger will look at it tonight when they get off work. Hopefully it's nothing big. But, since we were up so early we decided to visit my mom before work! It was nice to surprise her with an early morning visit. And Jacob and Emrick got to eat oatmeal at Grandma's house for breakfast!
Both of the kids have little colds. Emrick's is much worse than Jacob's. She has the nastiest cough, but only at night time. It doesn't seem to wake her up or anything, but it really sounds awful. I have been pondering a doctor visit...
